Dust and Water Proof Robot Protective Cover Overview

The Dust-Proof Robot Protective Cover is a high-performance protective garment designed to shield robots from dust, moisture, and other fine airborne particles that can cause joint malfunctions or make cleaning difficult. Constructed from wear-resistant, high-strength, high-density, and splash-resistant materials, it offers exceptional durability and protection. It is widely used in dust-intensive industries such as grinding, thermal spraying, food processing, and chemical manufacturing. Engineered for universal compatibility, the cover is tailored to fit various robot models while maintaining an ideal balance between aesthetics and functionality.

This protective cover provides full 360° robot coverage. Its high-density fabric effectively blocks even the smallest particles from penetrating the robot’s joints, and it can withstand over 10,000 friction cycles between the fabric and the robot without compromising performance.

Features

·  Effectively prevents dust, water vapor, and other fine airborne particles from entering the robot for long-term protection.

·  Anti-static design reduces the risk of electrostatic accumulation and potential explosions.

·  Significantly lowers the robot’s maintenance frequency.

·  Helps end users reduce operational downtime and maintenance costs.

Mainly used in bathroom, furniture, and electronics industries, with different surfaces for different application scenarios, providing a full range of protection such as dustproof, waterproof, oil-proof, and anti-static

Dust and Water Proof Robot Protective Cover

Protection Scope and IP Rating Statement

TEHU dust and water proof robot protective covers provide a flexible barrier against fine dust, powder, water vapor, aerosols, light water mist and incidental low-pressure splashes.

No standalone IEC 60529 IP rating is currently published for this removable textile cover. It should not be described as IP54, IP65 or IP67 unless the complete cover-and-robot assembly has passed the corresponding test. The cover does not replace or upgrade the robot manufacturer’s original IP certification.

The standard cover is not intended for immersion, steam jets, high-pressure washdown or continuous direct liquid impact. These conditions require a separately engineered and validated solution.

Dust, Particle and Water-Mist Applications

The cover is suitable for robots exposed to:

  • ◆  Fine grinding and polishing dust

  • ◆  Powder and airborne production particles

  • ◆  Dust generated during material handling or pipeline friction

  • ◆  Thermal-spraying aerosols

  • ◆  Paint or coating mist

  • ◆  Water vapor, condensation and light water mist

  • ◆  Incidental coolant or low-pressure process splashes

  • ◆  Dust-sensitive battery, electronics, furniture and food-processing environments

For sharp metal chips, heavy abrasion or sandblasting, select TEHU wear-resistant robot covers instead of the standard dustproof material.

Temperature and Humidity Selection

A fixed operating temperature or relative-humidity range is not published for the standard material. Material selection should therefore be confirmed according to:

  • ◆  Continuous and peak ambient temperature

  • ◆  Relative humidity and condensation conditions

  • ◆  Frequency and pressure of liquid exposure

  • ◆  Type of dust, mist, oil or chemical

  • ◆  Robot duty cycle and movement speed

  • ◆  Cleaning agents and cleaning method

High-temperature, freezing, corrosive or continuous washdown environments require an application-specific material assessment.

Compatible Robot Brands and Models

TEHU manufactures custom-fit covers for FANUC, ABB, KUKA, Yaskawa, Kawasaki, DENSO and other industrial robot brands.

Confirmed Universal Robots compatibility includes:

  • ◆  UR3 and UR3e

  • ◆  UR5 and UR5e

  • ◆  UR10 and UR10e

  • ◆  UR12e

  • ◆  UR20

For other models, the cover can be developed from the robot brand and model, CAD drawing, dimensional data, application photos and movement information. Expansion sections and openings can be customized around joints, cables, hoses, sensors, dress packs and end-of-arm tooling.

Installation Procedure

1. Stop the robot, isolate its power and follow the plant’s lockout/tagout procedure.

2. Clean the robot surface and remove sharp particles that could damage the fabric.

3. Position the detachable cover sections from the robot base toward the wrist.

4. Align expansion folds with the corresponding robot axes.

5. Route cables, hoses and dress packs through the customized openings.

6. Secure the cover using the specified hook-and-loop fasteners, straps, elastic closures, grommets or snaps.

7. Run the robot slowly through its complete programmed motion.

8. Check for excessive tension, loose fabric, pinching or interference with sensors and tooling.

9. Readjust the cover before returning the robot to normal production speed.

Cleaning and Preventive Maintenance

  • ◆  Daily or per shift: Remove loose dust with a soft brush, vacuum or controlled low-pressure air.

  • ◆  Weekly: Inspect seams, fasteners, straps and high-flex areas for cuts, abrasion or misalignment.

  • ◆  Monthly: Wipe the surface with a soft cloth and mild, non-abrasive detergent approved for the selected fabric.

  • ◆  Quarterly: Carry out a complete condition assessment and replace covers showing cracks, seam separation or material fatigue.

Do not use acetone, aggressive solvents or high-pressure washing unless specifically approved. Dry the cover completely before restarting the robot. See the complete robot cover cleaning and maintenance guide.

Project Case: BYD Battery Factory Dust Control

At BYD’s battery assembly facility, TEHU supplied custom robot protective clothing to prevent dust generated by pipeline friction from contaminating battery cells. The fitted covers helped maintain a cleaner production environment and supported the quality requirements of precision battery manufacturing. View more industrial robot protection projects.
